Yes, we went back to Grandfather Mountain to conquer it once more!

This time we were climbing Calloway Peak which is the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountain Range at a height of 5964 feet.

View from the top

Elizabeth taking it all in

One of the ladders you had to climb to get to the top.  The ladders are in places where it's too steep to climb.

A view into the valley

Elizabeth with Attic Window peak in the back ground.  If you're paying attention to our homepage you would see that we actually climbed to the top of Attic Window back in May, there is a link to those picture on our main page.

"X" marks the spot!  The white X painted on the top of Calloway Peak is the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountain Range.  Off in the distance you can see Attic Window which is at an elevation about 40 feet lower than this point.

The road you can barely make out over the left shoulder of Jan is the Linn Cove Viaduct

Back at our camp site:

Never mind that can of beans Jan is opening, we foraged for our meals. We sometimes had to eat bugs for lack of palatable food.

Jan and his fire

Jan cooking his wild boar meat....they look kinda like hotdogs don't they. But don't be fooled that boar put up a great fight.

Elizabeth toasting a marshmallow

The happy couple at the end of a very tiring day.

Calloway Peak is located in the upper right hand portion of this map.
